Editorial Reviews

Art and Techniques of Decorative painting, by M. Nadaï, Ed. Vial, 9-½ inches x 12 inches ( 24 cm x 31 cm ), hardcover book with 288 color pages - French/English edition

This hardcover book with 288 full color pages, perfectly documented and illustrated presents the work and technique of decorative painter.
The methods used are similar to those used in the Fine Arts, but the aim remains essentially decorative.
The scenery painter is not an artist but a craftsman beautiful maker. The muralist must be a virtuoso in his field for the viewer to distinguish a walnut of a mahogany, a yellow Siena marble of a sarrancolin. A historical survey brings to testify the wide creative and aesthetic possibilities of this craft.
The technique of imitation materials, marble, wood, semi-precious stone or tortoiseshell is presented by a stepping describing the tools used and details the implementing rules.
The art of trompe-l'oeil is approached through the study of shadow and light, of the false moldings and ornamental style.
The panoramic mural painting is studied through the perspective, the composition of the picture, its values and its contrasts, the choice of colors.
Many examples of the author's accomplishments illustrate his point. Master craftsman, the author is since 1994 one of the "Meilleurs Ouvriers de France".
